The announcement at the end of March this year that "HOT 97 SUMMER JAM TOKYO" would be held had a great impact on Japanese Hip Hop fans.
HOT 97, known as the most influential FM radio station for Hip Hop and R&B, hosts "SUMMER JAM" as a Hip Hop festival every summer, and held this year's "SUMMER JAM" at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on June 5.
"SUMMER JAM" has a history of more than 20 years since its first event in 1994.
"HOT 97 SUMMER JAM TOKYO" was a major challenge for "SUMMER JAM" organizers because it was the first "SUMMER JAM" event held overseas in its long history.
The "HOT 97 SUMMER JAM TOKYO" project was secretly launched about three years ago. Avex Live Creative Inc., the Japanese organizer of the event, and Emmis Communications Corp., the operator of HOT 97, reportedly played a leading role in planning the project through collaboration between Japanese and U.S. organizations.
The impressive line-up, which included some of the hottest names in Hip Hop -- FRENCH MONTANA, PUSHA T, FABOLOUS and OMARION -- showed the organizers' enthusiasm about the event and drew particular attention from the public. It goes without saying that advance tickets to "HOT 97 SUMMER JAM TOKYO," which were sold by lottery, were quickly sold out.

Organizers have already begun to plan next year's "HOT 97 SUMMER JAM TOKYO," and various moves are reported under way with an eye to holding SUMMER JAM events in other parts of Asia besides Japan.
"HOT 97 SUMMER JAM," a symbol of a Hip Hop scene in the United States, will play a leading role in deepening collaboration between Hip Hop scenes in America, Japan and other parts of Asia.
