Shenzhen Dance Drama "Wing Chun" Makes Its Overseas Debut in Singapore, Telling Chinese Stories to the World with Shenzhen Spirit

On the evening of September 27th, the Chinese Embassy in Singapore held the National Day Reception at the Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay in Singapore to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Diplomats and envoys from over 40 countries, including the United States, Canada, Venezuela, and the Netherlands, attended the reception and watched the overseas premiere of the Shenzhen-produced dance drama "Wing Chun".

This is the first stop of Wing Chun's overseas tour. When walking into the theater that night, the plaque of "Wing Chun Store" with a strong Cantonese style soon came into view. Xiang Yun Sha silk, the fabric to make the exquisite performance costumes, and the potato juice used for making Xiang Yun Sha silk have attracted many audiences to take photos.

Three months ago, on the eve of the Dragon Boat Festival, 29 envoys to China and some representatives of international organizations watched the performance of Wing Chun in Beijing. After that, they invited the crew of Wing Chun to go overseas to enable people from more countries to have a better understanding of Shenzhen and experience the charm of traditional Chinese culture, according to Shenzhen Municipal People's Government.

Today, three months after the Beijing performance, Wing Chun officially headed abroad, choosing Singapore as its first stop.

Quantinuum's H1 quantum computer successfully executes a fully fault-tolerant algorithm with three logically-encoded qubits

A multidisciplinary team from Quantinuum, QuTech (Delft University of Technology) and the University of Stuttgart used the H1 quantum computer to demonstrate a noteworthy advance in fault-tolerant operations

Fault-tolerant quantum computers that offer radical new solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems in medicine, finance and the environment, as well as facilitating a truly widespread use of AI, are driving global interest in quantum technologies. Yet the various timetables that have been established for achieving this paradigm require major breakthroughs and innovations to remain achievable, and none is more pressing than the move from merely physical qubits to those that are fault-tolerant.

In one of the first meaningful steps along this path, scientists from Quantinuum, the world's largest integrated quantum computing company, along with collaborators, have demonstrated the first fault-tolerant method using three logically-encoded qubits on the Quantinuum H1 quantum computer, Powered by Honeywell, to perform a mathematical procedure.

Fault-tolerant quantum computing methods are expected to open the way for practical solutions to real-world problems across domains such as molecular simulation, artificial intelligence, optimization, and cybersecurity. Following a succession of important breakthroughs in recent years in hardware, software and error correction, today's results announced by Quantinuum in a new paper on the arXiv, "Fault-Tolerant One-Bit Addition with the Smallest Interesting Colour Code" are a natural step forward, and reflect the growing pace of progress.

Many companies and research groups are focused on achieving fault-tolerance by handling the noise that naturally arises when a quantum computer performs its operations. Quantinuum is a proven pioneer, achieving previous firsts such as demonstrating entangling gates between two logical qubits in a fully fault-tolerant manner using real-time error correction, and simulating the hydrogen molecule with two logically-encoded qubits.

By performing one-bit addition using the smallest-known fault-tolerant circuit, the team achieved an error rate almost an order of magnitude lower, at ~1.1x10^-3 compared to ~9.5x10^-3 for the unencoded circuit. The error suppression observed was made possible by the physical error rates of the quantum charge-coupled device (QCCD) architecture used in Quantinuum's H-Series quantum computers, which are lower than in any other systems known to date. These error rates fall within the range at which fault-tolerant algorithms become feasible.

Ilyas Khan, Chief Product Officer and Founder at Quantinuum, said: "In addition to continuing to provide the quantum ecosystem with evidence of what is possible in these early days of quantum computing, the current demonstration is noteworthy for its ingenuity. The ion trap architecture of our H-Series offers the lowest physical error rates and the flexibility derived from qubit transport, which allows users of our hardware to implement a much wider choice of error-correcting codes, and that is what made this possible. Low-overhead logical Clifford gates, in combination with the transversal CCZ gate of the three-dimensional colour code, enabled the team to reduce the number of two-qubit gates and measurements required for one-bit addition, from over 1000, to 36.

Ben Criger, Senior Research Scientist at Quantinuum, and principal investigator on the paper, said: "The CCZ gate, which we've demonstrated here, is a key ingredient in Shor's algorithm, quantum Monte Carlo, topological data analysis, and a host of other quantum algorithms. This result proves that real hardware is now capable of running all the essentials of fault-tolerant quantum computing - state preparation, Clifford gates, non-Clifford gates and logical measurement - together."

          Established in 1998 by the U.S. Department of Commerce, ICANN's enduring mission has been to ensure the stable and secure operation of the Internet's unique identifier systems including the Domain Name System (DNS). Its achievements stem from collaborative efforts that brought together technical experts, governments, civil society, businesses, and end users. Throughout the past two and a half decades, ICANN has been at the forefront of technical Internet governance and policy development, ensuring the stable and reliable technical operation of the Internet. Key milestones include the formation of crucial advisory committees and supporting organizations to ensure representation from governments, civil society, and technical communities to the introduction of more than 1,200 new generic top-level domains (gTLDs), and the global expansion of its operational offices.

• Expansion of the DNS: The introduction of new gTLDs in 2012 marked a significant expansion of the DNS, leading to enhanced innovation, competition, and diversification in the Internet's address system. This not only broadened the domain landscape, but also set the stage for ICANN's launch of Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs). These IDNs cater to and address the diverse linguistic and cultural needs of the global Internet community, allowing for domain names in native scripts and languages.
• Championing Universal Acceptance (UA) and Digital Inclusivity: The goal of UA is to enable everyone to use and communicate on the Internet via a domain name and email address that fits their language, business, and cultural needs. • Steering Into the Future: Seven years have passed since the stewardship of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority functions was transferred from the U.S. Government National Telecommunications and Information Administration to the global multistakeholder community. High-Speed Wi-Fi from Mount Everest Tourist Base Camp

 

Huawei and China Mobile Collaborate to Bring Connectivity via F5.5G
          Visitors to Mount Everest (Mount Qomolangma) Tourist Base Camp 5,200m above sea level, are now connected from the top of the world with high-speed WiFi. China Mobile Communications Corporation Co., Ltd. (China Mobile) and Huawei have announced the successful launch of ultra-gigabit premium Wi-Fi services and F5.5G's leading technology, FTTR-B (Fiber-to-the-Room Business) enabling local administration staff and visitors alike to benefit from fast, reliable communication for their leisure and work needs.
          At the Management Office of Everest Base Camp, staff are focused on ecological conservation of the Himalayas. This work includes daily monitoring and checking of environmental protection devices then reporting to Mount Everest Administration Bureau with high-resolution photos, videos, and logs. The work was previously hampered by poor network connections resulting in slow upload of videos, frame freezing, and unsuccessful attempts to send documents. With the newly-installed high-speed FTTR-B network, communication has dramatically changed allowing all staff at the camp, and tourists nearby to enjoy premium Wi-Fi services.  
          The FTTR-B solution is also deployed at a hotel in the nearby town situated 4,200 meters above sea level. In the past, guest suffered from no network connection, frame-freezing and a slow response for the check-in system. Since the installation of the FTTR-B solution, up to 300 hotel guests can simultaneously enjoy high-speed Internet access while hotel operations are more efficient.

          Fiber-to-the-Room (FTTR) is a way to provide high-quality gigabit all-optical Wi-Fi using optical fiber access to bring 10G networks to every room. As one of the key technologies of 5.5G, FTTR is characterized by ubiquitous 10G networks. While FTTR is primarily for home users, the FTTR-B solution was jointly launched by China Mobile and Huawei to provide ultra-gigabit all-optical networking for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in China and is widely used in hotels and shops.
          Huawei FTTR-B devices feature flexible triple-mode antennas and can be installed on ceilings or walls to provide full Wi-Fi coverage in indoor areas, enabling users to enjoy premium network experience anywhere. The solution uses Power-over-Fiber (PoF) cables to transmit signals and supply power to devices at the same time, resolving problems of difficult power acquisition. In addition, Huawei's WeFTTR app provides functions such as network architecture management, one-click network optimization, and self-service network configuration for IT staff in management offices and hotels, reducing operations and maintenance (O&M) workload. O&M engineers of China Mobile can also use the app to remotely locate network problems, improving the O&M efficiency.
          In 2024, China Mobile will work with Huawei to extend the FTTR-B solution to the climber base camp situation. This will enable climbers to enjoy gigabit network services as they prepare to reach the summits at the top of the world.
