From July 16 to 29, the 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Digital and AI Ministerial Meeting, alongside other events of the Digital Week, is held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The event serves not only as an important platform for advancing exchanges and cooperation in the digital and AI fields across the Asia-Pacific region, but also as a window into Chengdu's innovative vitality.

According to the Chengdu Municipal People's Government, the organizer of the event, the Digital Week features a range of activities centered around four pillars: AI innovation, the showcase of industrial achievements, the promotion of Tianfu culture, and economic and trade cooperation. These efforts aim to leverage the meeting's momentum to boost high-quality growth in Chengdu's manufacturing and digital economy, and to further polish its calling card as a digital, intelligent, and international city.

Why Chengdu? The answer lies in the strategic imperative of extending the Asia-Pacific digital economy's footprint westward.

For years, digital cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region has been heavily skewed toward developed coastal areas. The fact that the meeting is being held in China's inland heartland for the first time marks a major step forward in the regional cooperation landscape. Leveraging the national "Eastern Data, Western Computing" project, Chengdu has developed secure, resilient digital infrastructure, equipping the city with the capacity for high-level multilateral dialogue. This geographical shift from a "coastal frontier" to an "inland hub" offers new coordinates and greater room for cooperation, fostering balanced development and shared digital benefits across the Asia-Pacific.

Chengdu also offers an ideal window into China's innovative vitality in the digital sector.

For a long time, global perceptions of western China have been largely confined to its natural resources, while its rapidly rising innovation capabilities received little attention. In 2025, Chengdu's industrial enterprises above designated size racked up 1.79 trillion yuan in operating revenue. The city has fostered two trillion-yuan industrial clusters in electronic information and equipment manufacturing, along with 11 key industrial chains, each with an output value exceeding 100 billion yuan, including artificial intelligence and aerospace. It has built more than 80,000 5G base stations and established a multi-tier computing infrastructure system that integrates "supercomputing, intelligent computing, general-purpose computing, and edge computing", bringing its total computing capacity to over 20,000P. Meanwhile, the core AI industry in Chengdu has surpassed 150 billion yuan in scale, growing by approximately 39% year on year. The city has also been ranked among the top-tier "leading cities" in the China City AI Index Report.

Driven by electronic information, AI, and digital cultural and creative industries, the added value of Chengdu's core digital economy sectors now accounts for more than 15% of the city's GDP. The Chengdu-produced animated feature Ne Zha 2 has set a new box office record in Chinese film history, topping 10 billion yuan in ticket sales and emerging as a benchmark for science-industry integration in Chengdu's digital cultural and creative industries.

The capacity to turn digital and intelligent technologies into tangible productivity gains represents precisely the kind of "certainty" that the global economy urgently needs amid its ongoing recovery. For Asia-Pacific economies, Chengdu offers more than market opportunities, but rather a systematic solution for applying technologies and validating scenarios.

On top of that, Chengdu's distinctive cultural charm and open, inclusive urban character bring a human touch to what might otherwise be a cold technical exchange. With its dual-airport hub connecting the city to the world and its innovation ecosystem embracing the globe, Chengdu is putting the principle of opening-up and cooperation into practice. Through concrete actions, the city is presenting a Chengdu approach to connecting the world in the digital age.

ทำไมต้องเป็นนครเฉิงตู คำตอบสำคัญอยู่ที่ยุทธศาสตร์ในการขยายอาณาเขตเศรษฐกิจดิจิทัลแห่งภูมิภาคเอเชียแปซิฟิกมุ่งสู่พื้นที่ทางตะวันตก

ที่ผ่านมา สังคมโลกมักมีภาพจำต่อพื้นที่ทางตะวันตกของจีนเพียงในมิติของทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ ขณะที่ศักยภาพด้านนวัตกรรมที่กำลังเติบโตอย่างรวดเร็วกลับได้รับความสนใจเพียงเล็กน้อย ทว่าในปี 2568 ภาคอุตสาหกรรมขนาดใหญ่ของนครเฉิงตู สามารถกวาดรายได้จากการดำเนินงานรวมสูงถึง 1.79 ล้านล้านหยวน ปัจจุบัน นครเฉิงตูได้บ่มเพาะกลุ่มอุตสาหกรรมระดับล้านล้านหยวนขึ้นมาถึง 2 กลุ่ม ได้แก่ อุตสาหกรรมสารสนเทศอิเล็กทรอนิกส์ และอุตสาหกรรมการผลิตเครื่องจักรและอุปกรณ์ พร้อมทั้งผลักดันห่วงโซ่อุตสาหกรรมหลักอีก 11 สาย ให้มีมูลค่าการผลิตทะลุ 1 แสนล้านหยวน ซึ่งครอบคลุมถึงอุตสาหกรรมปัญญาประดิษฐ์และเทคโนโลยีการบินและอวกาศ นอกจากนี้ นครเฉิงตูยังได้ติดตั้งสถานีฐาน 5G ไปแล้วมากกว่า 80,000 แห่ง และวางระบบโครงสร้างพื้นฐานด้านการประมวลผลแบบครบวงจรหลายระดับ ที่ผสานรวมทั้ง "การประมวลผลสมรรถนะสูง การประมวลผลอัจฉริยะ การประมวลผลทั่วไป และการประมวลผลแบบเอดจ์" ส่งผลให้มีสมรรถนะการประมวลผลรวมสูงกว่า 20,000P ขณะเดียวกัน อุตสาหกรรม AI แกนหลักของนครเฉิงตูก็มีมูลค่าทะลุหลัก 1.5 แสนล้านหยวน โดยมีอัตราการเติบโตเมื่อเทียบรายปีสูงถึงประมาณ 39% พร้อมก้าวขึ้นสู่การเป็นหนึ่งใน "เมืองผู้นำ" จากการจัดอันดับในรายงานดัชนีการพัฒนา AI ระดับเมืองของประเทศจีนอีกด้วย

Daicel Corporation's High Performance Polymers (HPPs) SBU (formerly Polyplastics Co., Ltd.), a global leader in engineering plastics, has launched four new DURACON (R) POM grades containing 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material. This new PCR-POM offering includes "standard, low VOC, sliding, and tough" grades which enable customers to select the material that suits their applications needs.

These newly developed grades were first unveiled at CHINAPLAS 2026 held in Shanghai in April. The standard PCR-POM grade offers a melt flow rate of 9 while low VOC materials meet OEM requirements. The sliding grade offers significantly better sliding properties while tough materials deliver the same performance as virgin POM grades.

Since 2023, Daicel has offered DURACIRCLE (R) re-compounding service which recycles plastic scrap collected from customer plants. While the previous focus was on post-industrial recycling (PIR) which reuses scrap generated during manufacturing, the PCR-POM currently under development utilizes POM that has been used in the market as a recycled raw material.

A major challenge in utilizing PCR materials is variability in properties and ensuring consistent quality. Leveraging its long-standing compounding expertise and quality control technologies, Daicel has confirmed that key mechanical properties remain at levels comparable to conventional grades, even with 30% recycled content (based on in-house test conditions).

DURACON (R) POM has been adopted across a wide range of industrial sectors. It features high mechanical strength/rigidity, excellent wear resistance, sliding properties, and high dimensional stability. It is widely used in applications such as gears, connectors, precision parts, and automotive components.

Daicel is undertaking further development activities with the aim of expanding its PCR-POM offering to meet a wider range of needs.

MAHLE Lifecycle and Mobility supports independent auto repair shops in their transformation from traditional repair shops to digital service centers. To achieve this, the spare parts and services division of the Stuttgart-based automotive supplier is developing an integrated ecosystem that intelligently connects vehicle parts, shop equipment, technical expertise, and diagnostics.

At the core of this is the new MAHLE Workshop Portal, a modern cloud-based platform that bundles technical information, training opportunities, repair solutions, and personalized support. Also new is MAHLE Battery Workshop Support, which will help workshops make safe, fast, and cost-effective repair decisions regarding high-voltage batteries. With MAHLE Mobile Service, professional repair shops will now be able to provide on-site service directly to private customers or fleet operators. Furthermore, in cooperation with Rohde & Schwarz, MAHLE is enabling standardized testing of radar sensors after repairs for the first time —thereby underscoring its technological leadership in the aftermarket. MAHLE aims to grow through spare parts for electrification and will expand its portfolio for electric vehicles from the current 1,000 to over 2,000 products by 2030. With the new CareMetix® Natural cabin air filter, MAHLE significantly improves air quality inside the vehicle. For the first time, the filter combines energy-efficient, sustainable filtration technology with sheep’s wool. The Workshop Portal is a free service for workshop professionals—from technicians and service advisors to workshop owners—designed to help them learn about new vehicle technologies, work more efficiently, and tap into additional business opportunities.

At the heart of the portal is an integrated technical support system with AI-powered features and a direct ticketing system, through which repair shops can quickly access expert knowledge and receive assistance with diagnostic and repair issues. The offering is complemented by a comprehensive knowledge base, online training courses, and up-to-date industry information. There will also be a flexible rewards program that allows users to earn points through training, activities, and purchases. Thanks to its responsive design, the workshop portal can be accessed seamlessly from any device—from smartphones and tablets to desktop computers—providing workshops with optimal support for their increasingly digital daily operations. The first pilot projects in Europe and South America will launch this summer. The portal is scheduled to go live for independent workshops in Germany in the second half of the year and will subsequently be rolled out worldwide.

Battery Diagnostics and High-Voltage Expertise

With MAHLE Battery Workshop Support, repair shops will be able to evaluate high-voltage batteries quickly and systematically in the future. Using an innovative diagnostic test, the system communicates directly with the battery via the Controller Area Network (CAN) interface within just a few minutes, regardless of whether the battery is still installed or has already been removed. The system identifies faults, precisely assesses the battery’s condition, and provides workshops with clear recommendations on whether the battery should be repaired, replaced, or sent to a specialized repair center. Upon request, MAHLE supports the repair shop throughout the entire process: from battery removal and transport to the necessary documentation. This reduces the workload for repair shops while also giving them access to specialized expertise and external infrastructure.

Innovative Service Models

MAHLE Mobile Service

In the future, vehicles will no longer necessarily have to be taken to the shop. With MAHLE Mobile Service, technicians instead come to the customer in fully equipped service vehicles. This expansion of service beyond traditional shop operations reduces vehicle downtime, increases customer convenience, and strengthens the market position of service centers.

MAHLE provides specially developed equipment and tooling concepts that can be integrated into new service vehicles or into workshops’ existing vehicle fleets. They are customizable and adapt to the specific requirements of each workshop. Depending on the desired range of services, a wide variety of services can be integrated, such as oil changes, brake service, inspections, diagnostics and software updates, starter battery and minor electrical repairs, glass repairs, air conditioning service, and high-voltage battery diagnostics. The pilot phase for this innovative concept has already begun in Europe.

Strong Partnerships for New Challenges

Modern driver assistance systems are becoming standard, but repair shops have so far lacked a reliable solution for calibrating and testing them. MAHLE and Rohde & Schwarz have now closed this gap with a joint innovation: the combination of the MAHLE TechPRO® Digital ADAS 2.0 calibration system with Rohde & Schwarz’s high-precision RadEsT radar tester. For the first time, repair shops can verify the actual functionality of radar components using realistic traffic scenarios. The results are measurable, documentable, and reproducible. This provides additional safety and ensures professional repairs. MAHLE TechPRO® Digital ADAS 2.0 systems already in use can be retrofitted.

Sheep’s Wool Improves Air Quality Inside the Vehicle

Sustainability is an essential part of MAHLE Lifecycle and Mobility’s strategy. The latest example of this is the new CareMetix® Natural cabin air filter, which combines high air quality with resource-efficient use of materials. A new feature is the use of sheep’s wool, which reduces the filter’s carbon footprint without compromising filter performance.

The cabin air filter reliably removes particles and pollutants from the air. At the same time, it reduces volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and ensures clean, low-odor air in the vehicle cabin. Furthermore, it minimizes the use of materials that can contribute to the production of microplastics. The filter is designed for a long service life and consistently high performance, offering a sustainable solution for both workshop and everyday vehicle use.

Electrification Portfolio Continues to Grow

Since 2025, the product portfolio for aftermarket electrification has included key power electronics components, such as on-board chargers and input filters, which are sourced directly from the Group’s own original equipment manufacturing facilities. With additional key components, MAHLE is strategically expanding its offering to include products that are crucial for the repair of electric powertrains and the optimal operation of modern charging systems.

Hitachi Energy and EGAT to achieve world’s first 550 kV eco-efficient gas retrofil

World-first EconiQ retrofill at 550 kV will cut SF₆ emissions while preserving full grid performance and reliability

• Hitachi Energy and EGAT to complete the first-ever eco‑efficient gas retrofill at the 550 kV level, setting a new benchmark for eco-efficient high‑voltage infrastructure

Hitachi Energy, the global leader in electrification, in collaboration with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), will complete the world’s first 550 kilovolt (kV) application of eco-efficient EconiQ® retrofill technology on existing, inservice assets originally designed for sulfur hexafluoride (SF₆). This breakthrough project will preserve Thailand’s grid performance while delivering a measurable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The project is scheduled for completion in December 2026.

EGAT will upgrade 130 meters of 550 kV gas-insulated lines (GIL) at the Nan Substation using Hitachi Energy’s EconiQ high-voltage technology. The project replaces existing SF₆ with an advanced eco-efficient gas mixture without modifying or replacing any primary equipment.

This upgrade enables EGAT to eliminate approximately 800 kg of SF₆, avoid 97 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions and deliver a more than 95 percent reduction in CO₂-equivalent impact whilemaintaining full performance and system reliability1.

กฟผ. จะดำเนินการปรับปรุงสายส่งก๊าซฉนวนไฟฟ้าแรงสูง (Gas-Insulated Lines GIL) ระดับแรงดัน 550 กิโลโวลต์ ระยะทางรวม 130 เมตร ณ สถานีไฟฟ้าแรงสูงน่าน โดยใช้เทคโนโลยีแรงดันสูง EconiQ ของฮิตาชิ เอนเนอร์ยี่ ซึ่งเป็นการทดแทนก๊าซซัลเฟอร์เฮกซะฟลูออไรด์ (SF₆) ที่ใช้อยู่เดิม ด้วยก๊าซผสมที่มีประสิทธิภาพและเป็นมิตรต่อสิ่งแวดล้อมยิ่งขึ้น โดยไม่จำเป็นต้องปรับเปลี่ยนหรือทดแทนอุปกรณ์หลักใดๆ ของระบบ การปรับปรุงครั้งนี้จะช่วยให้ กฟผ. สามารถลดการใช้ก๊าซ SF₆ ได้ประมาณ 800 กิโลกรัม เลี่ยงการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกเทียบเท่าคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์ได้ถึง 97 ตัน และลดผลกระทบต่อสิ่งแวดล้อมในรูปของ CO₂ เทียบเท่าได้มากกว่า 95% ขณะที่ยังคงประสิทธิภาพการทำงาน และความเชื่อถือได้ของระบบไฟฟ้าอย่างครบถ้วน¹“ความร่วมมือกับ กฟผ. ในครั้งนี้ เป็นการดำเนินโครงการ EconiQ retrofill ที่ระดับแรงดัน 550 กิโลโวลต์เป็นแห่งแรกของโลก และถือเป็นการสร้างมาตรฐานใหม่ในระดับสากล” วูล์ฟ มึลเลอร์ ประธานเจ้าหน้าที่บริหารธุรกิจบริการ บริษัท ฮิตาชิ เอนเนอร์ยี่ กล่าว “โครงการนี้สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงการยกระดับโครงสร้างพื้นฐานไฟฟ้าแรงสูงที่มีอยู่เดิม ทั้งยังช่วยเร่งการก้าวสู่เป้าหมายการปล่อยคาร์บอนสุทธิเป็นศูนย์ได้อย่างเป็นรูปธรรม”

โครงการ EconiQ retrofill สะท้อนถึงความมุ่งมั่นของ กฟผ. ในการเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพการใช้งานโครงสร้างพื้นฐานที่มีอยู่ให้ได้สูงสุด ควบคู่กับการลดผลกระทบต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม โครงการนี้แสดงให้เห็นถึงแนวทางที่เป็นรูปธรรมในการลดการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกจากสินทรัพย์ระบบไฟฟ้าแรงสูงที่ใช้งานอยู่เดิม ซึ่งสามารถดำเนินการได้โดยมีผลกระทบต่อการปฏิบัติงานและการเดินระบบน้อยที่สุด

โครงการดังกล่าวมีกำหนดแล้วเสร็จในเดือนธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2569 ซึ่งจะสอดคล้องกับแผนงานระดับโลกของบริษัท ฮิตาชิ เอนเนอร์ยี่ ในการพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีแรงดันไฟฟ้าแรงสูงที่ปลอดจากการใช้ก๊าซ SF₆ และมีส่วนสำคัญในการสนับสนุนเส้นทางสู่เป้าหมายการปล่อยคาร์บอนสุทธิเป็นศูนย์ของประเทศไทยภายในปี พ.ศ. 2593
