Volvo Financial Services, Junior Achievement Worldwide Share the Power of Financial Literacy with 14,000 Youth

Volvo Financial Services (VFS) recently completed a yearlong collaboration with JA (Junior Achievement) Worldwide, bringing a message of economic empowerment through financial literacy education to more than 14,000 youth in Brazil, France, India, Italy, Peru, South Africa, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.

In total, more than 140 VFS employees volunteered across nine countries, partnering with JA educators to instill the importance of learning financial skills, entrepreneurship, setting financial goals, budgeting and more.

"Teaching financial literacy skills and concepts will give these students the ability and mindset needed to make informed financial choices later in life, resulting in strong communities and a stronger society," said VFS President Marcio Pedroso. "Nearly one out of five of our employees in these nine countries chose to volunteer their time, and I am grateful for their efforts, as well as the guidance provided by JA Worldwide. Together, we made a real impact on the lives of many young people around the world. We look forward to building on the progress made during this past year."

The nine countries were selected based on locations where VFS employees live and work, and the curriculum was matched from JA's broad resources to the local area. One example is the JA Company Program, which sees students exercise the practical skills required to conceptualize, capitalize and manage their own business venture to fill a need or solve a problem in their own community. The JA Company Program was taught in Spain, Italy and the UK, with VFS volunteers providing real-world guidance and experience to the student-led startups.

"VFS' partnership with JA not only invests in developing youth financial literacy skills across nine geographic areas," said Asheesh Advani, CEO of JA Worldwide, "but also empowers VFS employee-volunteers to work directly with students as mentors and role models. JA's theory of change—to build self-efficacy in young people—depends on adult role models like those at VFS, who mentor JA students and share their own path to a healthy financial future."

The collaboration between VFS and JA is fully aligned with the Volvo Group's overall sustainability ambitions, which include a commitment to each of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The teaching of financial literacy skills will have a positive impact on several SDGs, including helping end poverty, supporting quality education, empowering women and girls, and more.

JA is a global leader in youth development, with a focus on financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurship. Reaching more than 15 million young people annually, JA delivers hands-on, immersive learning in entrepreneurship, work readiness, financial health and more.

ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Commit to Strengthening Collaboration as a World Growth Centre

Indonesia hosted the 10th ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting (AFMGM) on August 25, 2023, in Jakarta. This chairmanship aims to navigate the post-COVID-19 global challenges by formulating collective policies addressing immediate concerns and continuing efforts to secure the region's long-term economic development.

The AFMGM monitors the progress of the Priority Economic Deliverables (PED) and addresses pressing current issues including economic recovery and stability (Recovery-Rebuilding), digital financial inclusion for growth (Digital Economy), and green finance promotion (Sustainability).

Amid global uncertainties, ASEAN's economy stands out with projected 4.5% growth, above global average. It manages interest rates and exchange rates well, demonstrating resilience to global economic shifts.

Key discussions in AFMGM revolve around maintaining strategic momentum amidst geopolitical tensions, debt pressures, and sustainability challenges. Strengthening macroeconomic policy coordination and risk management are also regional priorities.

The Indonesian Finance Minister, Sri Mulyani emphasized that, "The meeting stressed the importance of strengthening macroeconomic policy mix in ASEAN countries using all instruments to ensure regional economic stability. The significance of well-coordinated policies to address existing risks was highlighted."

To support long-term sustainable growth in ASEAN, the AFMGM highlighted efforts to enhance regional infrastructure financing, repositioning the ASEAN Infrastructure Fund (AIF) as the ASEAN Green Fund. Member countries agreed to align AIF financing with the ASEAN Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance, enhance AIF processes, and set out for recapitalization and optimalization of the existing capital.

AFMGM also highlighted promoting transition financing for low-carbon economic achievements in ASEAN. The meeting discussed ASEAN's Sustainable Finance Taxonomy Version 2, reflecting efforts for a fair, affordable, and orderly transition in the region.

ASEAN Finance Process 2023 enhances cross-sectoral collaboration, Financial-Health and Food Security initiatives. The Finance and Health Ministers addressed pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response funding gaps, mobilizing resources like the ASEAN COVID-19 Response Fund. To bolster food security, ASEAN aims to improve food policies, accessibility, SMEs' financial access, and trade facilities.

Mindray Introduces Innovative Upgrades to A Series Anaesthesia Systems for Enhanced Patient Safety and Efficiency

Mindray (SZSE: 300760), a global leader in providing advanced medical device solutions, has unveiled upgrades to its A7 and A5 anaesthesia systems under the A Series Anaesthesia. These enhancements incorporate innovative technologies that empower anaesthesiologists to deliver precise anaesthesia, leading to greater patient safety and efficiency throughout the perioperative period.

"The demand for more diversified and higher-quality anaesthesia practices are ever-growing. In response to this need, Mindray has developed the A7 and A5 anaesthesia systems, providing an integrated solution for precise and safe anaesthesia delivery to patients with various conditions and streamlined management for anaesthesiologists," said Mark Sun, General Manager of International Sales and Marketing, Patient Monitoring and Life Support, Mindray.

AnaeSight(TM) is Mindray's pioneering integrated solution for combined intravenous-inhalational anaesthesia. By connecting machines, patient monitors, and pumps, it enables centralized control over intravenous-inhalational anaesthetics. This allows anaesthesiologists to easily manage anaesthetics and monitor patient vital signs from multiple devices from one user-friendly interface, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of the patient's status and streamlines anaesthesia management. Additionally, the eMAC(TM) indicator of AnaeSight(TM) gauges the combined drug effects of multiple anaesthetics, aiding in drug administration to help anaesthesiologists make well-informed decisions. Centralized control, integrated assessment, and combined drug effect all work together to effectively reduce workload, minimize the risk of human errors, improve the anaesthesia quality, and enhance patient safety.

A machine purpose-built to help anaesthesiologists provide optimal ventilation management, the Mindray A7 and A5 offer both intubated and non-intubated anaesthesia options to meet the needs of all patients. In addition to the High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) found in other A-series anaesthesia machines, the systems incorporate the HFJV for jet ventilation, particularly valuable in surgeries where the airway is shared or when dealing with challenging airway cases. The use of jet ventilation can improve patient safety by maintaining oxygenation levels and creating a better surgical environment.

A lung recruitment tool and monitoring parameters are included in the systems to ensure precise care throughout anaesthesia, and reduce the risk of perioperative lung injury and improve patient outcomes.

The systems enhance connectivity and efficiency by offering an overview of patient status in each operating room, granting anaesthesiologists convenient access to real-time updates on patient vital sign status. Moreover, the operational status of devices is readily accessible, ensuring proper maintenance for clinical procedures.
