On the evening of July 30, Suning.com (002024.SZ), China's leading O2O smart retailer, owned by Suning Holdings Group, released its 2019 semi-annual performance report. According to the report, the company achieved an operating income in the first half of the year of RMB 134.618 billion, saw a year-on-year increase of 21.63%; the sales volume of omni-channel commodities was RMB 184.215 billion, increased by 21.80% year-on-year, and the net income attributed to shareholders is RMB 2.139 billion.
Suning.com continues to enhance the ability to acquire customers online and offline. As of June 30, the number of registered members of Suning.com retail platform reached 442 million; Suning.com has a total of 7,503 self-operated and franchised stores, and 5,368 stores of Suning Xiaodian (neighborhood store) and Diatiantian.
In the first half of the year, the overall performance of domestic consumer market was flat. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to June, the national total retail sales of consumer goods reached RMB 19.5 trillion however, the growth rate dropped by 1 percentage year-on-year, among which the growth rate of online retail sales dropped significantly by 8.2%.
Despite the softer market environment, Suning.com's online and offline businesses maintained relatively rapid growth. With the continued roll out of the strategic plan to grow its full-scenarios and all-categories retail layout.
As of the end of June, the company has 7,503 self-operated and franchised stores. Especially in urban community and rural market, Suning Xiaodian and Suning.com retail cloud franchise stores grow rapidly. The total number of Suning Xiaodian and Diatiantian self-operated stores reached 5,368, while the Suning.com retail cloud franchise stores reached number of 5,108, which formed a comprehensive online and offline integrated consumption ecosystem in the domestic retail industry.
In terms of supply chain construction, in order to promote the professionalization and refined operation, Suning.com announced the establishment of five major commodity groups at the beginning of the year, namely, Home Appliances Group, Consumer Electronics Group, FMCG Group, Fashion Department Store Group and International Group. In the meanwhile, the company acquired the nationwide 37 stores of Wanda Department Store and an 80% equity stake in Carrefour China, which will quickly strengthen the capabilities of its department store business development and fast-moving consumer goods operations.
At the same time, Suning.com established and improved the supply mode of direct overseas procurement. It is reported that Suning International has a number of overseas direct supply chain warehouses in the United States, Australia, Germany, Japan and other countries, and the company will complete the construction of "15+15 warehouses" (15 overseas warehouses, 15 domestic warehouses) by 2020.
In the first half of the year, Suning.com continued to increase investment in logistics, finance, technology and building of other core capacities to lay a solid foundation for growth over the next decade.
In terms of logistics infrastructure, by the end of June 2019, the total area of warehousing and related support facilities for Suning Logistics and TTK Express was over 10 million square meters. Suning.com accelerated the development of fresh food business, and invested in 46 fresh cold chain warehouses covering 218 cities. In order to further improve the logistics and after-sales service capacity of the county and town market, Suning.com has set up a comprehensive service network for customers in those markets, integrating distribution, installation, maintenance and express delivery services. By the end of June, 950 county-level service centers have been established.
In the first half of the year, the amount of consumer finance business of Suning Finance increased by more than 100% year-on-year, and the amount of supply chain finance business saw a 41.3% year-on-year growth. The offline mobile payment business developed rapidly, and the number of transactions was up 231% year-on-year. During the reporting period, Suning Bank maintained rapid development. By the end of June 2019, the total assets of Suning Bank increased by 68.20% compared with the beginning of the year.

MediBeacon Enters into $30 Million Investment and Exclusive Commercialization Partnership in Greater China with Huadong Medicine
MediBeacon and Huadong Medicine will collaboratively work to reach regulatory approval on MediBeacon's entire portfolio of assets in Greater China
MediBeacon Inc., whose largest shareholder is Pansend Life Sciences, LLC, a subsidiary of HC2 Holdings, Inc. (NYSE MKT: HCHC), announced today that they have entered into a definitive agreement with Huadong Medicine, a publicly traded company on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. The agreement will provide exclusive rights to MediBeacon's portfolio of assets in Greater China. Huadong Medicine will be responsible to fund the clinical trials, commercial and regulatory activities in 25 Asian countries including Greater China (PRC Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan), Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore.
MediBeacon's Transdermal Glomerular Filtration Rate Measurement System (TGFR) is poised to begin its Pivotal trial in the U.S. and Europe. The TGFR is designed to measure kidney function at the point of care without the need for blood sampling or urine collection. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted Breakthrough Device designation to the TGFR in 2018.1 MediBeacon's agents and devices are not approved for human use by any regulatory agency.
It is estimated that 10.8% of the people in China suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).2 Kidney disease is a "hidden epidemic" affecting more than 850 million people worldwide.3 The ability to measure GFR is of high clinical interest especially in patients with, or at risk of, kidney disease.
Under terms of the deal, MediBeacon will receive an initial $15 million equity payment at a pre-money valuation of $300 million and a second $15 million equity payment upon achieving U.S. FDA approval for the TGFR at a pre-money valuation of $400 million. Huadong Medicine will fund all commercial and regulatory activities in Greater China and select Asian countries. In addition, MediBeacon will receive royalty payments on net sales in the specified countries.

On the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of the Scheldt, a New Royal Canadian Mint Coin Honours Brave Canadian Soldiers Whose Victory Forged the Path to Liberating the Netherlands
The Royal Canadian Mint's newest Second World War Battlefront Series fine silver coin commemorates the bravery and sacrifice of Canadian soldiers who, 75 years ago, helped the Allies win control of the Dutch and Belgian shores of the strategic Scheldt river. This costly battle, fought from September to October 1944, secured a vital supply line that helped Canada liberate the Netherlands and made the Allied liberation of Western Europe possible. The coin was proudly unveiled by Mint President and CEO Marie Lemay and His Excellency Henk van der Zwan, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Canada. This ceremony took place at the Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre in Ottawa, in the company of Second World War veterans and Allied nations representatives.
"The Mint is proud to honour Canada's veterans through coins that preserve incredible stories of courage and sacrifice in defence of Canadian values," said Marie Lemay, President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint. "Our newest collector coin shares the valour and determination that contributed to the hard-won success of Canada's soldiers at the Battle of the Scheldt."
"While victory at the Battle of the Scheldt ultimately helped pave the way for the Allied liberation of Western Europe, it came at a tremendous cost. More than 6,000 Canadians were killed or wounded during five weeks of intense conflict with well-fortified German forces along the Scheldt River," said the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence. "As time passes, it is critical that we not forget the contributions made by Canadians during the Second World War, and I am grateful that the Royal Canadian Mint is paying tribute to their eternal legacy of courage and sacrifice."
"The Battle of the Scheldt is a significant milestone in the shared history of the Netherlands and Canada. Led by Canadians, this fierce battle marked the beginning of the liberation of the Netherlands, said Henk van der Zwan, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Canada. "We are proud that the Royal Canadian Mint, with this coin, pays tribute to Canadian soldiers who bravely fought to make 75 Years of Freedom possible. The commemorations of the Battle of the Scheldt will be celebrated in the Netherlands on August 31. This will be the kick-off to a year full of celebrations to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands."
Canadian artist Mary McPherson designed the Battle of the Scheldt silver collector coin, which presents a realistic portrait of a Canadian Ojibwa soldier in action in the fall of 1944. The insignia of the First Canadian Army appears above the infantryman, who wields a Bren gun while advancing past a tower mill. A Wasp MKII C flamethrower Universal Carrier backs the infantry advance from atop an embankment near the Scheldt River. The obverse features the effigy of King George VI by T.H. Paget.
