- Expands network to reach 100% DHL-owned nationwide coverage
- E-tailers now enjoy better choice and consistent quality
- Increasing e-commerce shipments not only from Bangkok but also upcountry Thailand
DHL eCommerce, a division of the world's leading logistics company, Deutsche Post DHL Group, has further expanded its domestic delivery network in Thailand to reach 100% DHL-owned nationwide coverage. E-tailers now enjoy better choice and consistent quality in their domestic e-commerce shipments not only in Bangkok but also upcountry Thailand.
"DHL eCommerce is tremendously upbeat about e-commerce in Thailand and we are committed to further investing in our network, people and service to become the leading domestic delivery provider in Thailand. With our own DHL network across all zipcodes in Thailand, e-tailers will now enjoy global quality delivery standards consistently across Thailand and deliver the smile in the last mile to their shoppers," said Kiattichai Pitpreecha, Managing Director, DHL eCommerce Thailand.
Previously, e-tailers had limited options when delivering goods to different provinces in the country. With a limited number of delivery providers with nationwide coverage, e-tailers had to work with multiple service providers to reach their shoppers across various destinations. With its expanded network, DHL eCommerce now provides e-tailers with a truly seamless, reliable and quality nationwide delivery option.
"Nationwide delivery is important for our customers and so are the benefits we offer alongside our solution. Doing business with us is simple and convenient, customers now only have to deal with a single point of contact to reap the benefits of our consistent and assured service level across the entire delivery experience." added Pitpreecha.
Increasing e-commerce transactions in upcountry Thailand
As part of the government's 'Thailand 4.0' initiative to increase internet adoption and promote e-marketplace and e-payments, sellers in upcountry provinces are encouraged to adopt e-commerce business models for local products and services. DHL eCommerce Thailand is well placed to support merchants by offering pick up services on top of nationwide delivery.
"We've seen increasing volumes of e-commerce shipments not only from Bangkok but also from other provinces such as Nonthaburi and Chonburi. With Thailand's e-commerce market set to triple in size by 2020[1], we want to enable e-commerce for sellers -- from Bangkok to upcountry Thailand -- and provide them with DHL's recognized quality for nationwide delivery within Thailand."
E-Commerce growth dominated by SMEs, Marketplaces
With over 2.7 million SMEs in Thailand, it is no surprise that e-commerce growth is dominated by small and medium-sized businesses, micro SMEs and sellers on marketplaces.
"The beauty about e-commerce is its low barrier of entry. We have seen significant growth in e-commerce shipments from SMEs and sellers on marketplaces and in fact, SMEs currently make up around 20% of our business and their volumes are steadily growing every day," says Pitpreecha. "DHL eCommerce is ready to support the growth of the e-commerce industry in Thailand with our domestic network."
The variety of products sold on e-commerce platforms in Thailand also continues to grow. Electronics and gadgets are currently the leading category and expected to remain the top category, while fashion is expected to grow 25.6% annually and toys, hobby and DIY products expected to grow 19.4% from now till 2025.[2]
"The growing variety of products sold online today shows the growing appetite from consumers in shopping online. It is time for pure brick and mortar stores to get into the e-commerce game," adds Pitpreecha.
DHL eCommerce is part of Deutsche Post DHL Group. In Thailand, DHL has been present since 1973 with its other divisions DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Supply Chain. DHL eCommerce focuses on three main product pillars: domestic delivery in selected markets; simple and affordable cross-border international shipping for e-commerce businesses and e-commerce fulfillment solutions.
