Dachser Thailand well prepared for the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (FTA)

Thanks to its integrated, end-to-end solution set up and its global network, the logistics service provider is able to prepare its customers for changes in the upgraded FTA. During a customs clearance seminar in Thailand, the company presented its first own branded trucks for Thai streets.

Since the upgraded ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (FTA) went into effect in August, there have been some changes in the customs clearance regulations in Thailand. The changes have been put in place to facilitate trade between the ASEAN country and China. These changes also include a simplified and digitalized process which has had a positive impact on cargo arrival. The upgrade also means a reduction in tax for certain commodities.

During an event partnering with the German Chamber, Dachser Thailand hosted a customs clearance seminar focusing on the upgraded FTA, as well as the updated regulations. Close to a hundred participants attended the seminar at the Mytt Beach Hotel in Pattaya.

Expert speaker Warasit Muangkoom from the Customs Department of Thailand led an informative discussion around the implementation and changes that should be expected after the change.

"Some of the key modifications include a simplified customs clearance procedure, which means more efficient pre-arrival processing, increased transparency, and faster processing that expedites the release of cargo," Muangkoom said.

Jan-Michael Beyer, Managing Director of Air & Sea Logistics Thailand, explained how Dachser is well prepared to react to these changes brought on by the upgraded FTA, solidifying its spot as leaders in the market.

"Two certified customs specialists in our team are well trained about the FTA upgrades," Beyer said. "We also have the advantage of having the know-how around customs clearance procedures, fully understanding the process and having in-depth knowledge of all the updated changes. Dachser can help our customers to get prepared," Beyer continued, referring to the advice and support from Muangkoom.

Participants found it particularly useful when they were shown how to use the digitalized process for customs clearance and the impact it would have on pre-arrival processing, e-billing and e-payment systems following the upgraded FTA privileges.

Summing up, Beyer stressed that Dachser is ready for any of these changes, and that the company is in a valuable position thanks to its integrated, end-to-end solution set up.

"Dachser is a reliable, trustworthy logistics partner because we have an extensive and developed global network for air and sea logistics while also having trucks on the road for delivery," Beyer concluded.

The attendees of the event were also one of the first people to get to see the newly branded Dachser trucks which were showcased at the hotel entrance. They represent a commitment to the Thai market as the company stays on target to roll out more trucks on to the streets and will offer cross-border trucking in the near future.
